LMU wins fifth straight on road, improves to 5-2

Alex Osborne led the Lions with nine rebounds in the 74-62 win.
After a huge victory at BYU Thursday, the Lions didn't allow for any letdown tonight, defeating Santa Clara 74-62. Reigning WCC Player of the Week Anthony Ireland led the way with 25 points, also adding five assists.

Santa Clara's leading scorer Kevin Foster was held out of the game due to disciplinary reasons. He is averaging more than 17 points per game.

The Broncos led 2-0 to start the game, but never again held the advantage. Falling down by as many as a dozen, Santa Clara did fight back to get within six at 66-60, but the Lions did a great job of closing this one out. Senior Drew Viney and LaRon Armstead joined Ireland in double figures, scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively. The Lions shot an incredible 51 percent in the game, and an impressive 43 percent from long range.

Jarred DuBois returned from injury tonight to score nine points. He now has an impressive 1,000 career points with the Lions.

LMU will return to Gersten Pavilion Thursday to take on the undefeated Saint Mary's Gaels. The Lions have yet to win a conference game at home, and will have a tough test Thursday with the No. 23 nationally ranked Gaels. Game tips off at 7 p.m.
